Diabetes nutrition is very important to you as a diabetic, it can be difficult at times, especially if you are dining out; this can be a bit of a challenge, but only if you don’t know how easy it can be to enjoy a great night out with family and friends.
Following are a few tips to help guide you to an enjoyable and pleasant outing with diabetes nutrition:
* Don’t be afraid to ask your waiter about what exactly is in any of the recipes that you are considering ordering, if you need to ask to speak with the chef, I’m sure they will be only too willing to assist you
* Feel free to mention to them that you are diabetic and perhaps they might have some suggestions that would be suitable for you
* Always ensure that your meal portion is not large, ask the waiter how big the meal is and perhaps order an entree size if the meal is too large
* When choosing your meal, try to choose a healthy option, grilled or roasted, not deep fried foods
* Avoid going to restaurants that are “all you can eat” as this can lead to overeating and can cause you a lot of grief, which will put your sugar levels way out of whack. If you don’t implement a good diabetes nutrition regime, you will end up feeling unwell for a few days until you can get your levels back on track. All that food is not worth it and you will not have good memories of your outing
* Keep a close eye on the calories and the amount of carbohydrates your meal contains. Remember that if you balance them correctly, you can add a desert to your meal
* Watch what you drink, if you wish to drink alcohol please limit yourself to only a couple. Other beverages that you should consider is soda water, water, sparkling or mineral water or an unsweetened tea
* Always ensure that you eat at your usual time, as this can play havoc with your blood sugar levels. If for some reason you cannot eat at your usual time, have a snack that is starchy or some fruit to carry you through till your mealtime with friends. Make sure that you don’t have to wait too long for a table as this will also impact on your diabetes if you have to wait long periods between eating.
A good diabetes nutrition is essential for the management of your disease.
It is very important to remember the importance of diabetes nutrition whether you are enjoying a night out or at home.
You need to limit your amount of carbohydrates, fat and salt in your diet. Ensuring that you eat a vast range of healthy foods will help you with your meal plan and diabetes nutrition.
