It is evident that stress effects you as a diabetic as stress raises your blood sugar, therefore the effects of stress are harmful to your health and can be very dangerous. The most important thing to remember is to reduce and eliminate as much stress from your life as best you can as stress and diabetes just don’t go together. If you know what triggers stress in your life make sure that you avoid those situations as much as possible, perhaps avoid them altogether.

Stress and diabetes are a terrible pair together, they are harmful enough on their own.

If you haven’t already got type 2 diabetes, you will most certainly be increasing your chances of developing type 2 diabetes if you continue to lead a stressful life. One of the most important factors in reversing your diabetes is to reduce the stress in your life.

How stress and diabetes can affect you and the lives we lead today can have a huge factor on our stress levels, some these relate to the following:

*  Loss of a loved one

*  Financial problems

*  Loss of your job, therefore no income

*  Stress that is related to your work

*  Stress that comes with middle age

*  Stress within your relationships

*  An ongoing illness

It is very important to remember that when you become stressed, you forget to eat properly and this can become very dangerous for diabetics, another aspect of stress is forgetting to take your medications. If your stress is only temporary, your blood sugar level should settle in a short period of time, however, if your stress continues you need to take of the situation immediately before it causes you serious harm.

You can reduce the stress in your life by following a few simple tips, these will help you realize that stress and diabetes don’t mix:

*  It is vitally important to learn to relax and take time out – get into the habit of finding time out that is just for you, this could involve reading a good book, listening to your favourite music, deep breathing exercises, yoga or meditation

*  If you are concerned about any issues relating to your diabetes or life in general, make sure you talk to someone. This could be a family member or a health professional. Just by talking about your problems will help you to reduce your stress

*  Remember that exercise is important to you as a diabetic, but it is also good for stress as the brain releases endorphins, which have a calming, and mood elevating effect

*  Another important factor to remember is that you cannot control all situations, when you find yourself in one of these situations, the best thing you can do is walk away. There are some things we just do not have any control over and that’s fine, there is nothing wrong with that, so please remember that and move on.

Remember that stress and diabetes don’t mix, so by taking the stress out of your life, you will be able to manage your diabetes much easier and eventually reverse your diabetes.
